Friday June 8. Cloudy, showers at night - Warmer.
At noon I heard a strange bird call - twel- twel-
between quality of purple finch and hermit thrush.
Found the bird perched in young yellow pine on edge
of lake in front of cottage - a male Sierra Grosbeak!
Catching red all over. Could see. He crossed mandibles
other flew together
At 1 p.m. a Cedar Waxwing perched in same tree,
stayed quietly about ten minutes, calling occasionally
and looking about. A few minutes after he flew I heard
a flock - In afternoon men went down the
Truckee river to the point where. Squaw Creek
