1934
A young Allen, Heron, came to the Great Willian
( Olive-sided Flycatcher, heard occasionally. Also
Creepers (family group?), Kingfishers, Chipping
Sparrows in addition to ones mentioned yesterday.
Also Song Sparrow, Warbler, Purple Finch, Towhees,
A Crested Jay was heard twice, also seen; and
both Harris' & Willow Woodpeckers. Nuthatch
Lorenzbergos arrived about 5:30 p.m.
May 22. High fog until nearly noon. Drove to Santa Cruz
in morning. Returned to Berkeley in afternoon.
Chilly wind with high fog in Berkeley.
May 24. Rain — ¼ in. in 24 hrs. More birds singing
near house. Toluca Warbler, Lutecent Warbler,
R. b. Thrush (occasionally) and Thrasher (occasionally)
May 25. Cloudy all day.
May 26. Cloudy with some rain.
May 27. Partly cloudy — with showers.
May 28. Drove to Boulder Creek after 3 p.m. Found
bridge removal finished.
May 29. R. R. Tracks removed in front of house. Birds
very abundant. Heard Purple Martin before dawn,
when it seemed absolutely dark. Twenty minutes
later joint calls of Grovelock Thrush, Towhees etc.
Black-throated Gray Warbler still singing. Gander
and Water Ouzel flying down stream. Family of
Buck Tits came into broom. Crested Jay came through
occasionally. Cassin Vireo very near house, calling all
the morning (but not at dawn).
May 30. Cool. Clearing wind from N.W.
