I went down and threw a stone into the Cough
where they nest each year. A Blue jay
flew out. Fox Sparrow singing. Golden-
crowned Sparrows bathing. Took down
feeding table. Hung ground and Cocoa-
mat shell with canary seed in railing.
Apr.14. Grosbeak singing near house (first time)
Apr. 14. At Saratoga I heard my first Yellow
Warbler for this season. Young Anna-Hummers
were feeding in the Yellow Jasmine bush.
A Grosbeak was singing.
Apr.16. Drove home from Boulder Creek via
Skyline Blvd. where we heard several Chip-
fling Sparrows - the first I have heard
this spring. As we crossed the bay
we watched for Bonaparte Gulls but
only three were seen at the east end
of the pier. Later Mrs. Ferguson told
me they were very abundant at Dumb-
barlon Bridge April 14.
April 17. A flock of brush tits went thro' the
garden. I could detect no notes of
very young birds. A Blue jay dashed
at them several times. No sound of any
birds from Virgin Wren nest - though I
kept my eye on it several times. Not yet
brooding? (Deserts. Killing spray?)
April 18. Very foggy a.m. Many birds
singing at 4:20 a.m. Virgin Wren, Song Sparrow,
Thrush, Golden-crowned Sparrow, Grosbeak.
Fox Sparrow still here.
