July,31. We stopped at Mountain Iris Marsh for a
few minutes when we passed at about 1:30 p.m.
Tide was well out so there were very few birds
near the highway but I saw from the car
10+ Hudsonian Curlews, 1 Long-billed Curlew,
1 Black-bellied Plover and 6 Willets. At Boulder
Creek Turtles nest contained one unpledged bird- other in broom.
Aug.2. I had about twenty minutes on the rocky
coast of West Cliff Drive at Santa Cruz
about 11:30 a.m. Tide was just turning. I
counted eight Wandering Tattlers. Bills were
long, feet yellowish, no white pattern in
flight. Three Gullbends were near shore
and one flew into a hole in the cliff (opposite
Camberston's Nursery). Mocking bird on wire nearer ton
(At the cottage in the late afternoon (about 6:45 p.m.) I heard the call of the Golden-
crowned Shrike(?species several times. Then
dark thin fly from near the top of the redwoods
south of the College across to the top of
a redwood near the road (B.R. led) where he
repeated this call. I remembered then that
I had heard that call and had not noticed
it was not a chickadee, ?)
Aug.3. Heard a Goshawk in the garden. (Rich.Ferry)
Aug.4. Saw a Cassian Tern on San Francisco Bay.
