1936
July 6. On way back to Berkeley we crossed Dumbarton Bridge. Saw no shore birds. About
50 White Pelicans in three groups were at
the east end of the bridge toward the south.
July 7-10 Boulder Creek. Mourning Doves - a pair
seen frequently. They come itself on the
electric wire about 8 a.m. each morning.
Wrentit heard frequently and occasionally a
Virgin Wren. Both were missing during the
opening and early summer. Thrush still singing.
July 15-18 Boulder Creek. Warbling Vireos singing.
Nutten Vireo heard. Did not hear Kingfisher.
Mourning Doves still about. July 18, White
Pelicans (20?) at Dumbarton Bridge and
many Sandpipers.
July 21-26. Boulder Creek. RB. Thrush very seldom
heard. Yellow & Pileated Warblers, Western, Ash-thr. Olive sided
Flycatchers and W. Wood Peewee and Black Phoebe; Few
songs. At Palo Alto heard St. Nuttatches at
Dumbarton Bridge July 26, many Chalcoopes, Some
Sandpipers, 1 Yellowlegs, and 50-60 W. Pelicans.
July 31 - The rainiest July I can remember.
July 29 - Santa Cruz - A Wanderling Tattler seen from
W. Cliff Drift. Also 2 Black Turnstones.
Aug. 7 - White Pelicans and 3 Phalcoopes at Dumbarton.
Aug. 18. Santa Cruz. Several Surf Birds seen -
Many Heermann Gulls.
Aug. 20. Mrs. Blake reported a Phal. on husband and
some Tanagers in the garden.
Dept. 1 Heard Warblers (Yellow?) in maple trees
near Piedmont Ave., Mrs. Lewis reported
5 White Tailed Kits at Duvivier's. Young
still being fed by parents.
