May. 1921. Boulder Creek.
May 24 Warmer, Clear most of the day-
Cassin Vires came thro' garden.
Young gone from Vires's nest Lutesew
Warbler's nest. James heard Poor Will in
evening.
May 25. Warm. Clear all day. Heard
mystery bird at 3:45 A.M. Cassin Vire
very prominent.
May 26. Very warm. Had supper by the river.
May 27. Heard mystery bird with loud
liquid note very early. A little later
heard similar strain in higher pitch
(violet green swallow?) - all before dawn.
May 28. Cloudy. Sprinkled a little. Mrs. Fer-
queen and Elizabeth came out with
them to get Cancer-root. Heard Butlers
Vires and Vagons were. In afternoon
drove with Wita to Santa Cruz-very
bad detour through sandy hills-
Came back on train.
May 29. Heavy rain all a.m. Walked to
Farnount in late p.m. Saw
Ash - White-tailed Flycatcher at top. Violet-gz.
Swallows near station, Water Oyce
at railroad bridge and Calif.
Woodpeckers in two places.
