March. 1921. Berkeley:
Warring and Prospect. It was feeding on
Cralegno berries. It sang a whisper song
in a tree very near me. I thought at first
that it was a Purple finch but as I listened
it seemed different. After finding it, it
continued singing at intervals for half
an hour stopping in different trees
as I went up the hill, lighting on the
electric wire over the street and finally
disappearing over Mrs. Torcey's house.
Saw and heard my first Lutescent warbler
for the year. Saw a strange flycatcher
which I could not identify. Creepers
heard near library (U.C.)
March 15. North Forty. Bulbs in breeding
plumage. Saw Western Grebe and Rared,
Grebe. Townsend Solitaire still feeding in
Cralegno bush. Lutescent Warbler seen
again. Cold.
March 11. Golden-crowned Kinglets, Varied Thrushes
seen. Allen Hummers abundant.
Horse man in N. Berkeley again.
March 12. Showers. Warmer.
March 13. Lutescent warblers singing in
the garden. Showers.
