May 5. Claremont Region - Saw Breeding
Grosbeak, Long-tailed Chat.
Young Titmice in box make themselves
heard.
May 8. Saw Blue Jay carry away 2
eggs from nest of Calif. Towhee. One
of pair of towhees is banded. The
other squeals whenever disturbed
by jay. Squealed each time Jay
came for egg.
May 9. Went up Canyon with Dr. Bramard
Mrs. Plehn's uncle. House W. still
building.
May 13. Took morning train from Oakland
to Boulder Creek. Mason Cottage.
Saw 2 female Riqn. Pheasants near
Campbell in grain field. Many crows
in marshes near Alviso. Beautiful
April weather. Spring flowers in full
bloom including field flowers, lilac,
azalea, etc. Junco's are feeding well -
grown young but Thrushes except Hermit
not yet singing.
