1919. Sept. single birds were seen. On the beach, Brewer Bl. and Gulls were acting as Scavengers. In the bay there were large numbers of Sandpipers, phalar., and Bon. Gulls. One large flock in the distance behaved like terns. They seemed to be following a school of fish. The Pied-billed Grebes on Stow Lake called a number of times a loud, clear, whistling note, higher pitched than that of coot. Total number of species seen - 43. A Cooper Hawk, flew into a flock of Dst. and Nuttall Sp. in pine trees. Sept.23. Saw a Marsh Hawk rise in spiral over W. side of hill. Rump spot, tail bands, black tip of wing and pointed primaries distinct. Sept.24. Golden-crowned Sparrow back. Vaux Swifts seen in Claremont. Torned Marblers back. Brown Towhee on table very ragged from moulting. Sept.25. Banded Br. Towhee on table - not an exception but the regular thing.
