April. Berkeley 1923. 8. Western Flycatcher - one heard. 9. Allen Hummingbird - 3 seen or heard. 10. Purple Finch - 2 singing. 11. Linnet - several near ranch house. 12. Fox Sparrow - two seen on S. side of canyon. 13. Golden-crowned sp. - small flock. No songs. 14. Song Sparrow - perhaps five. 15. Brown Towhee - " " 16. S.F. Towhee - abundant 17. Blackheaded Grosbeak - 5 or six - singing. 18. G.b. Goldfinch - 2 19. Western Tanager - heard several, saw two, one in full plumage. Heard call and song. 20. Nutting Vireo - 2. 21. Warbling Vireo - 1 - full song. 22. Lutecent Warbler - most abundant bird in canyon 23. Bilesated " " very " " 24. Tolmie " heard 2. 25. Thrasher - many in full song. 26. Vigors Wren " " " " 27. House Wren - three pairs near sand house; 1 pr. building in hole above window of abandoned out-house. Both male & female working on same nest. (28. Black-backed Thrush (heard by aerial)?)
