April.15. Golden-crowned Sparrows were singing.
Several came to pool accompanied by
Intermediate Sparrows but there were
no Dut. Sp. songs heard. Have all males
passed north?
April 16. Hermit Thrush, about and singing
soft voice. Kniglets calling but not singing.
Five quail on table - went away in two
groups (1) Mate & female, (2) Male and
Mrs. Mios reported yellow
Two females. Cloudy a.m. Walbier.
Apr. 17. Rain p.m. Hermit Thrush at pool and
singing. Only birds on table - 1 pr. quail,
1 Br. Towhee (banded), 1 Br. Towhee (not banded)
1 S.F. Towhee, 1 Thrasher. At 6:30 p.m.
a great row with jays.
Apr. 18. Clear, brilliant day. Intermediate
Sparrows heard again. Hermit Thrush here.
Apr. 19. Took walk with class up Strawberry
Canyon. Perfect day. No wind.
1 Redtailed Hawk flew out of Monterey Pines at head
of canyon where they usually nest. Pair.
2 Quail, many pairs. No quail whistles.
3. Coast Jay - very numerous. Noisy in upper canyon.
4. Calif Jay - Several pairs. more quiet.
6. Meadow Lark - in full song across canyon (S)
7. Flickers - two heard.
