Flicker drumming on box.
Apr.10. A pair of quail come often to table, using
it for loafing as well as for feeding. A small
flock came also in early morning. Rain.
Hermit Thrush and Intermediate Sparrows here.
Pileated Warbler & Warbling Vireo heard in distance.
Banded Br.Towhee (newband) on table a moment.
Only one feeds often and that unbanded
with no mate in attendance.
Apr.11. Still Cloudy. 2 Dut. Sparrows and
1 Golden-crown came to bathe. Have
heard a strange call note several times
lately - between a Thrasher and Jay,
lower pitched than either. Two called
at dam. Clean p.m. Townsend Warbler still singing.
Apr.12. Beautiful warm spring day. Went
with class to Baumberg. Flower abundant
and plenty of water, both fresh and salt.
Found the following birds: Trebe (sp?) (1),
Baldpate Gulls (black heads) many flying in
flocks of ducks. 1 Baldpate, Pintail, Shovellers,
Ruddy. Several thousand ducks but too wild
to be approached nearly. In flight, The
bulk of the flocks seemed to be shovellers.
Great Blue Heron (4-5), Black-crowned Night Heron
(1), Coots (3-400), Avocets (15-17), Long Billed
Dowitchers (50-), Red-backed Sandpiper (1),
