1918. August - Sept. everyday. Young S.F. Torhee comes to table to feed. Aug. 14. Mrs. Fish reported Louisiana Tanager in her garden. Aug. 16. Saw and heard Tanagers on Bancroft Way near College. Mrs. Ferguson saw 2 Kingfishers fly past 27 Mosswood Road at 10:30 a.m. - rattling loudly. Flew up campus. Young S.F. Torhee moulting. Linternusty on sides but still streaked. Aug. 19. Saw Kingfisher twice on Tunnel Rd. Aug. 20. Began teaching Nature Study at Mt Claremont Outdoor School. Aug. 21. Saw Snat catcher in Snythe Canyon- also W. Flycatcher, Rufous - cr. Sparrow, Allen H., R-b. Thrush, Grosbeak. Aug. 25. Sh. Sh. Hawk caused great com- motion among quail at dusk. Aug. 27. Brown Tanagers very ragged from moulting. Sept. 1. Counted 42 quail taking dust bath near drinking fountain. They come every day, some days many times. Sept. 8. Russet t. th. calling at dusk. Got Bill Sparrow's nest.
