August 1921. Berkeley. Aug.19. Russet-backed Thrush heard. Aug.20. I heard a Kingfisher in canyon - Aug.21. Beautiful day. Large flock of quail came to drink. Vigors now singing Aug.22 Beautiful day. Young S.F. Towher showing chestnuts. Spots disappeared but head still rusty. Aug.23. Beautiful day. Adult S.F. Towher has finished molt. Aug.24. Saw a Barn Swallow as it flew just above trees on Whitney place. Came from across canyon at north. Disappeared around the hill at the south. Calling. Tail forked - Aug.25. W. Flycatcher in garden - Very lame, silent. Aug.26. Beautiful weather. Purple finch singing brilliantly. Aug.27. Beautiful weather. Purple finch again. Tried to go to Freshman Reception. Too weak to stand. Aug.29. Beautiful day - Adult Sparrow Hawks fighting off air jays in trees above Mockwood Road.
