Upper canyon slopes - elderberry, artemisia and mountain lilac. Lower down in can- yons, California bay and alder. Birds in this association - (i) cliff swallows, linnets, pine siskins, bus- tits, California jay, wren-tit, western crow, brown towhee, hummingbirds Redwood Canyon - This region and Muir Woods as well - in transition zone. Vegetation: Redwood mainly. Azalea, wild morning glory, buckeye and mimulus in bloom, thimble berries ripening. Equisetum observed in damp places. Birds occurring in this region - pileated warblers, flicker, nutset-backed thrush, western flycatcher, chickadee, brown towhee, bushtits, chickadee, cliff, yellow warblers, both tealip and coast gays
