Sunday - July 5 - 1914 - 8 A.M. - 2 P.M.
Locality - Campus to Grizzly and
Bald Peaks. - Weather foggy until 9:30.
No wind until upper slopes were
reached. These found a brisk breeze!
Two in party. - Condition of vegetation -
found tar-weed, dog-fennel, sycamore,
rodium, convolvulus, elder-berry, brassica
campestris, and escholtzia in bloom,
dandelion and thistle in seed.
Western flycatcher heard in upper
foliage of tree near Harmon Gym.
Saw about a dozen linnets on wires
and roof at Budd Hall. Great num-
bers of English sparrows were encoun-
tered in streets, vacant lots and on
campus. - In canyon near East
Hall, a pair of Santa Cruz song
sparrows were observed foraging
in the low brush near the stream
bed. Saw brown towhee on ground
near Chemistry Bldg. As usual heard
purple finch in top of conifer below
