June 13 Colorado Desert, Calif. In (foggy) night of May 7th High temperatures in the desert rose to 118° F. at Palm Springs and 120° F. at Fort Mohave. This was not a heat wave but rather an intense local heating due to clear skies and light winds. The temperature dropped rapidly after sunset because there was no cloud cover to trap the heat. On June 1st, a cold front moved into the area bringing cooler air and some rain. Temperatures fell below normal for several days. By mid-June, the hot weather returned with temperatures reaching 105° F. or higher. Humidity levels remained low throughout the month.
