Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
We met an old man named "Rattlesnake" Bill, who was living in a small house near the river. He had been there for many years and said he liked it because of the quietness and peace. We talked with him for some time before leaving.
He told us that he used to be a miner but gave up mining when he got too old. Now he spends his days fishing, hunting, and enjoying nature. He also mentioned that he has never seen any wild animals except rattlesnakes since moving here.
We continued our journey along the riverbank until we reached another campsite where we spent the night.
