Ludwig, James P. 1964 7 lackluster jets. The turbulence gives it character. But today as my tenure with the Smithsonian is drawing to a close I have a great many memories and thoughts about the past nine months. The experience and contacts I have made have been invaluable. One of the joys of this project has been the fine dedicated personnel I have met and exchanged ideas with. For my own sake I have learned a great deal more than twenty-five new species on my life list would indicate. Dealing with people has never (and may never) been one of my strong points: on the project I have made my share of mistakes in this realm, but I have also avoided some pitfalls. Prudence comes only with age and experience. For my future work I take home a goodly number of new techniques and ideas. My research work cannot but benefit from this opportunity and experience that I have been through. For this and much more, my thanks to the staff of the Division of Birds, Smithsonian Institution.
