James P. Ludwig 1963 7 and in the evening went to band Masked and Brown Boobies, Wedgetails, and Bonins. Total of only 52, but made recoveries on 25 Masked Boobies. These (Masked Boobies) will attack anything, even their own chick, at night that approaches their roost. To bed by 12 p.m. September 24, 1963 Helped Bill set up his study area and outlined plans for 2 to 200 square foot Shearwater study areas, one adjunct to the 550 foot area, one to the South of the building complex. Masked Booby nestin in Bill's area has a 2 day chick (9-25-63) and apparently 2 pairs of Boobies share the duties with the chick. Will color and mark them tomorrow. September 26, 1963 Rained all day and worked inside on bird skins. Immature Blue-faced Booby made up well. Finished up a few odds and ends, worked briefly on equipment. Anxious to get a break in the weather to band some of the Wedge-tails. Out in the evening and saw two tiny land birds. One looked like a Waterthrush (Parulid ) and was collected and the other flew and called like Goldfinch. Shot a very dark Golden Plover. September 27, 1963 Very excited over the possibility of getting more stragglers. High northeast by north winds continued.
