Ludwig, J. P. 1964 Moku manu - p 9 An estimated maximum population of 5,500+- 2,000 sooty terns was estimated for this island. Some 600+- 200 pairs of Boobies at this date. 6 Brown Boobies were seen in the Channel, and 2 wedge-tailed Shearwaters NW of the island. Minimum numbers of both Sooties and Red-foots were noted at 1600 - Maximums of both at 1845. The Sooties congregated in larger and larger numbers between 1600 and 1845. I am unsure of the size of the population of sitting and roosting birds in this period, but I believe that more were present on the ground at 1845 than at 1600. A maximum of 11 Frigates were seen.
