Lehner, P. 1964 57 Sept. 7 Cam made check on mouse traps; we decided to go skin-diving out at the reef with Browne, Conners, Briggs and Hauserstein - loaded all our gear on the raft and got a tow out from the V.P.; the underwater world out there is the most beautiful I have ever seen; some of the most bizarre fish and coral formations one could imagine; we dove for four hours and then got a tow back in (11 A.M. - 3 P.M.) ; the evening meal was a cookout - we cooked up some of the fish caught on the earlier expedition - the Dolphin is undoubtedly the best tasting fish I have eaten (although the taste is impossible to describe, it does not taste like fish); the rest of the night turned into the usual fiasco with dancing around the fire's all this activity did not seem to disturb the birds much except for the ridiculous pyrotechnques demonstration when well aimed flares put Noddis off the guy wires or made Frigates change course in the air; Conners almost hit one of the MATS flights as it skimmed low over the island after just taking off from Johnston.
