Aug. 23 up in A.M. to check mouse traps; did
backwork during the afternoon and then
ran checks on Wedgetails + Noddies after supper;
the two cats on the island are apparently
killing some birds (found a couple Noddy
chicks before - two Wedgetails today); collected
36 Wedgetail blood samples which gives us a
total of 101 Wedgetails; now to start
work on the Noddies which are going
to be very difficult to catch; saw a
flock of 24 Ruddy Turnstones today; all
shorebirds are on the increase; I'm
convinced that young fledged Sooties are
fed by a great number of adults; the
chirping of the juvenile apparently triggers
the feeding response in any adult
close by.
