23 April 81 Treason Went up the river a few miles this morning. Found several foxes on which were Coots, a medium size Egret with three half grown young (I would have shot but it could not be any way of getting it) several Ruddy and Spoon-billed Ducks; and two or three pairs of Cinnamon Teal. one White Heron. A. egretta. one Night Heron (a distance), one Great Blue Heron, and one small Rail, which I think was P. jamaicensis. I once mounted one of this species for the San Diego Lyceum. Killed near San Diego Cal., and I have seen two other when I had no gun with me. The flight of this one was very slow and the bird was small and dark. This flew up over it bank on which I was walking with my gun on my shoulder.
