Mt. brown, Bill and claws black
Curr. Legs and feet bright-yellow.
Stomach contained scales of
small fish (these are minnows
in the Santa Cruz), hair, bones of some
very small animal, wing covers of small
beetles. She evidently had not eaten
this morning. Laying would not
have laid again for several days;
probably the set is complete. She
evidently had not incubated long.
Shall try to find the nest.
Saw her mate also but he was
too shy for me. I saw them
yesterday, in the same place.
They flew from one large tree
(magnolia) to another one or two
hundred yards distant and
repeated it when I tried to ap-
