9 May 81 Tucson Ariz. 6035- 348 Polyborus war. andubonii 21.9X48.9 I brown, Bill pale green at base becoming nearly white at tip. Bar portions of the head dull purplish red to under the eye behind which it is whitish. Legs white with a yellowish Tinge. This is the "Hawk" of which I made a note of having seen. It was in company with Turkey Vultures & Ravens at a slaughter house. Another was said to accompany it. It seems to be a carrion fuder, and has much the same habits as the Vultures as near as I can learn. It was wilder than the Vultures as it flew up first when I tried to approach them. Note. These conclusions in regard age (as well as sex) are arrived at from internal characters independent of plumage.
