Gavia imber. Lake Umbagog. 1903 June 14 On my return from the trip up Cambridge River I called on Alva Coolidge. He had just got back from B.Pond with two Loon's eggs which he took this afternoon. The nest, he tells me, was in a cove directly in front of a big rock, not concealed in the slight- est degree by grass or bushes but simply built up of mud and a few the surface of sticks a few inches above ^ the shallow water by which it was sur- rounded. The bird passed out directly under his boat in about 3 feet of water as he entered the cove.
