(Midsummer singing) Umbagog
August 10.
// A bird singing freely in
the woods on B. Point about
9 o'clock this forenoon (June thing
bright & hot on the Town ). Its
song was fuller, richer, more
strong and more prolonged
than I have ever known it
to be during the breeding season.
Indeed the bird seemed to
be carried away by its own
music and to outdo itself.
I heard one singing in the
same place & in woods the
same morning a few days ago.
