Big Creek Reserve 5mi N. Lucie, Monterey Co. Calif. 400ft elev.
6 June 3 cold dead chicks at the camera nest at 0700hrs
2 of the chicks were bloody - perhaps the adults were
pecking them to pause them. Both adults evident, wedgy
and focused on the nest. It would appear that the ♀
would not feed the chicks with a red light.
The camera took no shots b/c the duck tape came loose
over the shutter. Pickled and measured the chicks.
Found nest of pair just south of the tract in Feyne's
backyard, did not look in.
Tried to set up enclosure at near latrine birds but
♀ would not accept the plastic flashing! Her eggs
are ready to hatch.
Saw ♀ near bracha fern w of purge carrying nesting
material. Jeff & I thought we saw the ♀ put nest
glass with food a fecal pellet.
Found nest of California Thrasher + Red-tailed Hawk
(2 juveniles in nest with bony toes).
7 June We searched the rest of the study area to re-research
facility for a pair fledgery young but could not find any. At my
favorite bowl there were 7 singing males but only = 2 females.
At Feyne's house we set up an enclosure. At the edge of the
chicken wire
1x2 wood wire hardware cloth we put 9"
hardware cloth 1/4" metal flashing. ♀ would not
accept. She hit the flap
twice. We heard it did not see.
Her eggs may have been damaged in migration. I noticed one had
popped quite a bit and it was bloody in a strip blood
