ith, J 1991 Journal 211 Big Creek Reserve, San Lucia, Monterey Co, Calif. Yorkt 20 April Rained all night. Very wet and windy. About 2pm this afternoon the fog turned off along the coast but not inland. I walked the west side of the interpretative trail. About a 45 minute walk along the Interpretative trail from the station Hdq is a beautiful westerly overlook to the pacific. A nice place for a picnic. This comes at marker T-14 along the trail, Further down the trail at I-18(?) is a branch to Lower Oso Rdge this is about 20-25 minute walk up a ridge to overlook the ocean and highway 1. lots of grassy hillsides and wildflowers, Baccharis and poison oak. Back along this trail to finish the Interpretative trail you wonder down into a deep dark Redwood canyon with small creek. Very quiet. Took the Dairy Canyon trail for about 20 minutes - not very exciting just another deep Redwood canyon. From interpretative marker 21 to 26 you climb back up the canyon steeply. after #27 but before 28 you get the Boronda Camp Trail. With all these extra side trips the 5km Interpretative trail took me almost 4 hours at a leisurely pace to return to the traila. Very cold, wet + windy all day - very high tide. The Seal guy that was on the beach last night was still there when I returned tonight at 1930 but it soon went back to the water only to return to the beach ~20 minutes later -- seems all quite normal.
