Personal James 1938 Cape Canaveral, Florida The first time I was in space was on April 12th, 1961. It was an incredible experience. The view from orbit is breathtaking. You can see the curvature of the Earth and the vastness of space all at once. On my second mission, which lasted two weeks, we conducted several experiments and gathered valuable data about microgravity effects on human physiology. One particularly memorable moment occurred when I floated outside the spacecraft during a spacewalk. Seeing our planet from such a unique perspective was truly awe-inspiring.
