and his young hunter [illegible] heading
for a ravine which ran up little clefts,
but a little to the left, while my orange
[illegible] myself climbed to the crest halfway of
a ridge.
He had not been parted for more
than fifteen minutes when Bang bang
bang went Harry's rifle, 3 times in
quick succession, the reports rolling
from and the gorge in majestic
drains of soundless [illegible] drawing them
selves and countless echoes among
the jagged rocks across the stream.
A moment later my hunter made
out three sheep scrambling over the crest
of the ridge above where Harry stood
but they were too far for many [illegible]. Then
after an interval a voice fluted
distinctly from out the canyon
limit, "I've got a fine ram"
it said, "a beauty" and I could
hear the happy ring in it even
at that distance.
"Good for Harry" I think he certainly
deserved it after his [illegible] last
shot" for he had come his half
dead only after dark. He had seen
eight sheep, [illegible] an exciting chase
but not being accustomed yet to
the clear atmosphere he had
