It was a raw day with an icy wind
when we reached the ridge this morning. The
first drive for roelink in a ram when we
had seen 12 deer was a failure and we got
no shots except at a fox. The report just light
wafuti out from above us & the beaters saw
them running over the hills toward the spot
where we had killed the big one the previous
Saturday. It was a long hard pull over
tree against the knife like wind and
after drawing me name unsuccessfully
Harry went along the bottom of the valley
while I paralleled him on the summit
of the ridge.
Three bucks jumped out from a
ravine in front of me two going down
toward Harry & the 3rd stopping behind a
thick bush. It was a great luck if it was
so great a temptation to present, I fired
luckly bullet went to pieces in the
brush & never reached the buck.
Hearing my shot Harry looked up
just in time to see the buck go over the
tree. He think he could head out off &
ran around the base of the spur just
in time to intercept three rapids while
heads were running down its ravine.
Harry stopped behind a rock & let a
cow or calf pass him within a few yds
