a narrow hole behind a clump of high grass, closet the mangle in a large circle to get behind the herd. Try to dress them thereid where I lay, after burning into the caravan until I was well concealed & fringing my hat with grass, I watched the herd work thru' the bruisular. They were feeding of moving slowly about in a vast semicircle for ten minutes -- than suddenly they drew together seven off to the far wind. They several hundred of them bunched up into a moving yellow mass but a dozen smaller herds split off running in all direction except mine. One lot did start toward me & momentarily I expected them to come flying about my cover, as I snuggled down out of sight, but something staved them off for they passed far over to the left. When the mangle had returned & I was on my horse again, we decided to make one last try for a herd one toward the road. They let us come within fair distance & thrusting out in a flying line. Unfortunately they circled to the west and going straight into the eye of the sun which lay like a great ball of fire in the edge of its bosom -- !
