having & again our cars, we photographed the old man this family which pleased them immensely, and made off camping with us several pieces of cheese which the men had had presented us. It was hardly edible, however, to people nothing nicer than ice cream I see threw it away as soon as we were out of sight of the camp. The day of travelling was extremely disappointing for we half hoped an antelope would caught sight of me. The reason was apparent for there were numerous gazelles along the way & many herds of sheep & horses. When there are many wilds one can be sure that there will not be antelopes. All day we kept along the hills, through beautiful rolling country but gameless save for 3 rabbits. We camped at night not far from three or four yards where one of the Chinese motor companies kept a supply of gasoline for their cars. Friday June 27 During the A.M. the country continued gameless but shortly after supper we found a well near its road where we had camped the last night on our way to Mogu, About three miles beyond I saw a single antelope in the plain & tried unsuccessfully to stalk it. Seeing that it was well fed I decided to fall off after it and get it across my mind.
