Got away at 8 a.m. Then travelled up the valley & coming off on the Kalgoorlie road - lots of water from recent rains - Every p.m. rained hard - last in a m. Today was beautiful & although some thunder we didn't have any rain - At the Russian bridge across the Trola saw a pair of swan geese with young - it red birds would only leave the ground when we were a few feet away - I tried to flush them but a Russian in a cart frightened them - caught 2 young - wonderful how they would hide from the rest more than a week old & could run nearly as fast as I could. There are puppy little fellows covered with shiny green down.
Had supper at bridge at p.m. went on down the valley & struck across the hills - Beautiful with forest clad slopes my Bradfordal plain right & rolling hills in the left - Saw first mammoth 2-1/2 miles from bridge - rifle shooting tonight killed some - camped at a little pond - Swam pond was pair of swill drake (sully) with Marie swimming - SWATH - little fellows could dive & swim like old men's after only a few days old - beautiful night
