Nelson say that for years Humbucks were always seen about the first of April and few if any during the winter, but for the last seven years not one has been seen in April but they are sometimes seen in Jan. Feb. They are always passing south & not feeding. A Right Whale 50' long taken at Hososhima weighed as follows: during Feb. 17th Red meat - 38,060 lbs Blubber - 27,459 Heart - 1,669 Tongue - 3,348 Tail - 1,983 Fins (2) - 1,888 blubber only 74,052lbs = $7+ tons add for bones " " blood $ " Red meat of Right whales not so good 4/4 for eating as that of Blue or Finback whales, but the blubber is best of all whales for eating. During Feb. 17th the meat of a Right whale [illegible] sold for 12 sen ($6) per lb. The blubber sold for 8 1/2 sen per lb (4 1/4 $)
