Contained fetus & no.14a 2.30 P.M. no.14 Blue Whale F May 24/10 Akawa Color A very light whale. The back from tip of fin down back is gray with scattered light markings, to about nearly root of fin. Rest of the back (posteriorly) is thickly marked with light gray, on the peduncle being almost solid. The sides of the ped- uncles are not only thickly covered with very light gray markings, but also many rather small white scars. This gives the peduncle the same "crippled" appearance which I observed in the Blue Whale at Orkney. Under the fin is a large white patch and a line of scattered white markings run obliquely downward & backward from it. Also on the pike folds directly opposite naval are many white markings. Rumid light bluish slate, throat folds under it are darker slate. On the throat folds there are no white markings but a few ashy ones in breast.
