The blowholes are situated between and ab two prominences which meet anteriorly, forming a V. By inserting my finger in the blowhole [illegible] and pressing downward & forward enough to open the exterior nasal passages, the prominences at the sides & in front of the nostrils were considerably raised. This must be the position taken assumed during the expir- ation, as the expulsion of the breath opens the interior nasal passages. By spreading the nostrils until they looked the form of a wide ellipse wheel, as shown by my photos, as their cent- iron during inspiration, both edges raised slightly of the blowholes were raised, the inner
