except for the upper edge of the scutellum for a distance of 20 mill from the end of the ridge on the fleabes which is distinctly slate color shading into the black. Also the edge of the upper tip on each side for a dist of 40 mill is white. I believe that if examined when fresh the color of the upper parts would be found to be dark slate and not black. Flebes Above black mellowed to slate- aut.-post. Below [illegible] a narrow band of dark slate -- runs across flebes along side of median bead. The posterior edge has a margin dark of slate, widest at which, here joining the aut. post. bands. Rest of flebes below are white. Pectores Above black, below black except for its median joint of white which runs up on the base from the white of the breast. Color Varietis, No 28 [illegible] No 28 has the white near the tip of the under jaw not so long. There is no white edging to the upper jaw on the left side just a suggestion of it on the right. The white central band between pins or fins is much narrower than in No 27; the slate along the edges here is more distinct. The
