I do not count the vestigial bearing
the rudimentary rib on the left
side as a dorsal.
Possibly 14 caudals might be counted
for the last vertebra is composed
of certainly two, possibly three,
ankylosed bodies; it is a trans-
gular block showing the ankylosis
of two bodies very distinctly. I
am of the opinion that the ex-
treme dist (dorsal) i.e., about the size
of a hazelnut) is a separate verte-
bra, such as is often found in
other whales, but have not counted
it as such. The end of the last
vertebra is 10 cent from the bottom
of vertebral fender.
Pedal
I dissected this flipper very carefully;
length of flipper from heel of hind
foot to tip 7 inches right
to 14 8. The last phalanx extend clear
to its edge of the flipper.
Metacarpals = 4 - The metacarpal
of the last (4th) digit is forked proximally,
the central fork being composed of two
portions connected by cartilage -
The pisiform process from the side
of the carpus is an oblong bone some
long.
