The jelly-like masses are all taken off while care is, with the oil, but could be taken out in great lumps with the spermaceti. The following meas- urements of this case were taken after it had been opened, so I could determine exactly the whole extent. The spermaceti length of case cavity = 5"80 coiled down when depth (up & down) " : 145" cool air tube, it looks then like paraffin - only not so hard. Fifteen barrels of pure spermaceti were taken from and the case alone - the spermaceti yielded from the whole head that was 40 barrels (including that in case g all that was taken from the fat on its head). The whole whale yielded 90 barrels of oil - including that taken from the bone, meat, blubber & spermaceti. The case from above looks like this: The spermaceti feels off very easily; it is in several layers. The dermis also can be stripped off with little trouble but is soft & they easily peeled apart.
