Apr 26 I was surprised on waking this morning to find how further vegetation had progressed in Illinois, as compared than in the East. The forest trees were bud- ding & the apple & cherry trees in full blossom. Last year when I left New York I found the opposite condition existing, for the spring was decidedly more advanced along the sea coast. In a pond, a few miles below Crystal Lake, o.e. I saw from the bank are Olypasus sp. & two or three other liss in the water while I took it over of the same genus. However this visit was too short for positive identification.
