I left New York at 6,38 A.M. on the N.Y.
C.N.E.R.R. from the Harlem Station.
A slight rain was falling which continued
intermittently until a short time
after noon -- by 4:30 P.M. The sun
had broken thru the clouds and the
beautiful sunset gave promise of
a perfect day on the morrow,
The first part of my trip, from New
York to Albany, was along the shores
of the Hudson River, which is always
beautiful but today particularly so.
A heavy blanket of gray fog lay over
the water; that gradually rose
till it hung just at the top of
the city hills. The bases of the mount-
ains, beautiful in soft tender brown
and purple, were reflected in the
water as in a mirror. The forest
