374 MASS. (Middlesex Co.) 1876. Aug, 30 C.J Maynard found a flock of about a dozen Barn. discors in a little pond on shade St in Waltham opposite "the Gore place" and killed Two of them. He also shot a single Euminius the last of the season. Sept 6 This evening while at Maynards saw a number of Chordeiles propetua migrating S. and have seen them in greater or less abundance nearly every morning since Aug 25. Generally they pass over rather high up keeping along pretty steadily but several times I have seen them when it had become quite dusty gliding ghost like through the gardens & Streets of this city keeping close to the ground. Sept 7 Took a drive through Belmont this morning and shot two Y. sodus near the road. Saw two Iochilus echbi's probably the last, and at sundown this evening a large body of H, bistor flying over our places in Cambridge towards the S. Sept 9 Went up to Concord this P.M and drove down to Dan maedor with Gun to try Apthorp's little "Dash". The afternoon was cloudy with thick mist and I saw two W. horrorum and one W. humifrons flying low down over the meadows near a number of chimney Swifts. Of the latter I saw a great assemblage flying about on the town upon our return.
