Chordeilis propeta, Slinus norboracensis 373 Departure of D. aestiva 1876. Aug. 27 Still hors de combat. Have done literally nothing the past month but read and write especially the latter. The last three or four weeks have been signalized by especially delightful summer weather and little else at least in my humble sphere. Saw the last D. aestiva Aug. 24. Estinimus I spotted from our garden sometime before that date. Aug. 25- I saw two Serinus norboracensis in the Russells garden. Aug. 19th A single Chordeilis propeta was seen in the swamps by R. Dean. Aug 26th I saw a company of six or seven flying S. over Fresh pond and on the evening of the 27th another loose body of ten or a dozen passing over Arlington heights for the S. Thrushes are beginning to appear. Yester day afternoon (Aug 27th) I saw a ? Acipiter cospius near Brown's in Belmont and a Yaleo Sparvinius on the above named "heights". The latter glided past the bumpy with surprising velocity and lit in a wild cherry tree near the road. I hear the faint hush of warblers this moonlight nights but only occasionally, as the migrations have barely commenced among the Sylviesticidae as yet. The crickets are still in full blast but the Cicadas I have not heard of late. If their pae is seen it must have been an uncommonly short one this year. Shou birds can reported as very scare, but few good bag having been made. I have not find a spot for over a month. I heard orioles in one garden on the 26th.
