Had very poor luck as a brisk S.W. wind made so much noise among the leaves that it was impossible to hear anything. On the flats in Fresh Pond shot two Ag. Dem, an B. fusca & adt. H. minutilla, In the woods took an adult of Sitt. ruticilla, a R. striata and an addt. & Byanospiza cyanea changing to fall pl. Saw also on the pond a single Calidris arenaica, Yesterday (Sunday) P.M. while driving down by the pond saw two Gurguidula discors sitting on the mud in "Bark's nest" preening their feathers and trying my horse I walked down to nearly within gun shot of them. Heard to day that a flock of six appeared on the pond early in the (Sunday) morning and four of them were shot; these two are probably the survivors. Sept 7 Clear cool and a lovely September day. Now at 6 A. M. and started for the swamps. On the mud flats in the Glaeali's pond were a pair of Gambetta flavius and whistling them to me I shot one and missed a very close shot at the other. A few minutes later I heard the note of a G. melanoleuca) in the distance and whistling diligently I soon called him down to me and killed him). Also shot a Botaurus rotarinus flying. In the willows near the brook I saw an Empidonax and shooting it found I had killed E.flavins the first time I ever saw it in Autumn; in a
