Apr. 18 - 1874 Hyderwaddon Jhumbra Apr. 18 Blondy and shooting through the forenoon. Came up in P.D. Started up the lake in the Shamboat this morning for a days shoot on the lake & Lo's pond. Took to my boat at the outlet and after firing about 25 rifle shots at a low (who by the way damn'd rather to take this kind paying no more attention to my shots than to occasionally rise & flap his wings when I came very near) I paddled across the flooded meadow into the pond. In one of its most secluded nooks I was much surprised at coming suddenly upon a very large loon: he dived instantly & marking his corn by a line of bubbles on the water spread out under my boat & crept into the river. I saw a number of ducks (one A. standing) in the pond but fired only one shot at a flying bird wounding & losing him in the cuddy. Saw and at Benson's Bar: heard them with a variety of shrill hawk like whistles. Came across two Picoids Arcticus both & shot
