Aug. 3 - 1874 255 Aug. 3 Cloudy and cold. After breakfast went up C. Pine in the Hill and took 6 birds that beat Mr. Consani molt 1 D. maculosa do. 2 y Bœub jubicans do 1, J. Sarissorini do. 1, /Saw a Scirpus proboacensis and a hawk which uttered a very juvenile shrill whistle; also Comp. plumiferus add. I molt. Both of the latter were sitting side by side on a dry dead limb uttering a juvenile version of that sharp call of the adult. In P.M. climbed my birds and took 1 front. 4 Cloudy and very cold. After breakfast rode up to the top of the hill with Mr. S. and after getting the meal, started down beating for Cook by the way. Almost failed to see a flock of stupid grouse all about half grown birds and shot two individuals both over shady points. I had brush shots at them. Did not see any traces of Cook. I judge that the season being dry not they have taken to the big woods. While
