Aug. 1 - 1874 The young grobecks of which I saw two broods (an accompanied by a supost & in full jul) had the plaintive note recorded last season but also attend the sharp chick of the adult. Very few birds are singing now except the white throats. I however heard a Thr. Hypomnis in full song to day. Botriolania has not left yet. I saw them to day. Small birds of all kinds are very scarce in the woods. I have species apparently failing about. The lake continues very high - all over the meadows as in spring and consequently none of the bass, pike or shingals have appeared yet. Ducks are reported quite here. I have seen but two or three. A deer was said to have been killed in the Megalony quarry last Sunday last 8 hours took 12 trout below the dam.
